Rex Walrond

Rex Walrond is a passionate and driven student dedicated to exploring neuroscience and psychology's complexities. His academic journey includes significant contributions to research at the McKnight Brain Institute, where he played an essential role in studying the connection between subarachnoid hemorrhages and the potential onset of Alzheimer’s Disease. His ability to analyze data and collaborate with his peers and mentors was instrumental in producing a paper that shed light on how brain injuries could increase the likelihood of cognitive decline. This experience deepened his understanding of neurodegenerative diseases and inspired his ongoing commitment to advancing knowledge in this field.

In addition to his work at the McKnight Brain Institute, Rex gained practical experience during an internship at Romark, a pharmaceutical company based in Tampa, Florida. Working closely with the CEO and the research team, he developed new treatments for infectious diseases. This internship allowed him to combine his scientific skills with real-world applications, giving him insight into the collaborative nature of medical research and the importance of innovative solutions in the fight against global health challenges.

Rex's academic background began at Admiral Farragut Academy in St. Petersburg, Florida, where he demonstrated leadership and academic excellence. As Battalion Commander in the Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (NJROTC), he oversaw the training and development of more than 150 cadets, a role that honed his leadership, communication, and organizational abilities. He graduated with a 4.0 GPA and was inducted into the National Honor Society and the Spanish National Honor Society, reflecting his dedication to his studies and extracurricular activities.

Rex studied at the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, earning a Bachelor of Science in Psychology, specializing in Behavioral and Cognitive Neuroscience. His coursework gave him a deep understanding of the brain’s role in human behavior and cognition, setting the stage for his future medical research or psychiatry career. Graduating Cum Laude in 2024, he is now focused on furthering his expertise in neuroscience, with plans to pursue graduate studies in the field.
